Your daycare should be one where you can drop by at anytime and walk in. If you can see what's going on at any point in time, you can get an idea of how they handle things. You can also watch the cues from your child. After he starts going, look for behaviorial changes. He will be your first indicator that something is wrong. Also, keep in mind that some of these smaller, "in-home" daycares are not as strictly regulated as the larger, more expensive ones. Sometimes, you get what you pay for.

I've had both of my girls in a day care situation for a period of time and found that it really caused both of them to flourish in ways that staying with family never could. They were around other children and really got to work on social skills that they definitely would not be getting by staying at grandma's. They were also exposed to lots of germs and illnesses early instead of hitting at school age. Now, both of my children are SUPER healthy and are never out of school sick. Your son is going to be exposed at some point. I've found that the earlier it happens, the easier it is to get over and build immunities.

So in general, I am a fan of day care. Just watch your son's behaviorial cues and you'll be all right. Good luck!

We just found out yesterday my daycare was closing in 2 weeks. My daugher is 21 months old. My biggest fear was to find her somewhere she will be safe and loved like she has been. Thankfully we found a Learning Center at a local church. A friend of mines kids go there. But my suggestion would be to ask your church or if you don't have a church feel free to call one they might have some suggestions or referals for you. Good luck

Get refferals from friends and family. Any decient daycare will be able to provide you with refferals and overall trust your gut and don't settle for the first person you meet.
