I am raising two small grandchildren ages 3 & 4. The oldest child whines about everything and I have never had to deal with that before. How can I stop this behavior?

I hate whining! It is really the only thing that gets me. I usually tell my kids that I can't understand when they use that voice and to come back when they can speak properly. In your case, though, I would suggest doing it really gently. It sounds like the kids have been through a lot for such young ages. Hope you hang in there!

My middle one was a whiner. She grew out of it, about the time she had her own child. I guess you don't want to wait that long? LOL

my son sometimes does the same thing and i do it back to him....then he laughs.

then i say to him now how do you ask and i wait till he speaks properly. kids sometimes get into the habit of speaking with a whine and they need a 'gruff' voice to remind them how they should be acting.

good on you for doing this wonderful job.

just don`t ever respond to it ...and tell him why it is not working for him.....and that if he wants what he wants, give him an example of how you want to be asked......tell him you only listen to his big boy voice......you can also try to mimic him to show him just what he sounds like....not to mock him ..but respond in the same tone...usually works with my boys anyway.....they usually laugh and ask me to stop ...and then continue to talk normally ...the whining gets on my nerves!! you`d be surprised how much it gets on theirs as well!!
