I have a 9-month-old son who was doing great sleeping through the night before a recent trip for the holidays. He got sick during the visit and is now nowhere close to sleeping more than three hours at a time. Suggestions?

I went through that with both of mine. If they have any stuffy nose that will wake them or if they have fluid in their ears it is more uncomfortable when they lay down. It doesn't have to be infected to have uncomfortable pressure. Also if they suck a pascie, my Dr. said it accompanies more ear infections for some reason. You might try to use a humidifier and raise the head of his mattress with a folded towel just a few inches. I'd make sure he eats well before bed and give him a lovie, my daughter likes those little blankies with the soft ribbons on them, for comfort when he wakes up and let him kinda try to put himself back to sleep.
Also my cousin swears by those Menthol plug ins to try and keep their nose clear, I haven't tried that yet. Sounds like a good idea. I know that when you are working with a waking baby its more than terrible!

Are you feeding him when he wakes up? My pediatrician said to give them only water if they wake up in the middle of the night. Also, make sure he has a blanket/stuffed animal/pacifier or something in his crib to help soothe him back to sleep. The only other suggestion is to let him cry it out!
