Did you think about going back to school? I know that seems like a crazy idea, but with the stimulus money out there to help, it might be the right time to take on a load of work that will pay off.

Im not a single mum but my husband is pysically an mentally disabled so I may as well be cos he causes more trouble tha the Kids LOL. Sometimes u need to take sometime out and wonder if you are better of at home with your kids, the mones shit, but the benifitsr unreal, u may only need to take a few months out to got back on track, but if workings not working, re think, u r entitled to b at home with your children. :)

I take one day out of my weekend to cook stuff from scratch and canning/freezing- saves time and money: chicken broth, chicken meals, sauces.

Also, for produce- if you have a farmer's market- prices are better, produce is fresher, and usually healthier (less pesticides).

Life is very hard especially when you not only have yourself to take care of but children. A lot of people use coupons but I honestly look for the items that are the cheapest. I have found if you buy in bulk (Sam's Club) that you save a lot more money in the end. If hand-me-downs are an option for you that saves a lot!! You have to pay bills obviously but try not to accumlate anything extra other than necessities that way you can start back at the beginning and work your way up. Check into child care and see what is the cheapest way for you to go. It is hard and very stressful to live check-to-check. I know how it is and I hope the information I have provided has helped some. Don't get frustrated and have hope. Life will get better! Enjoy being a mom because that is the best gift on earth. They love and appreciate you more than anyone else ever will. Good luck and it will get better=)

Hi Erica. It seems a world phenomenum that everyone is tightening their belts. Many friends....myself included, have had to learn to survive on a lot less income. I live in Spain and am involved with volunteers who collect food to distribute and fundraise for people in the community that cannot afford food whilst the crisis is hitting us hard. Good families who have always worked but are having their homes repossessed. In honesty I didnt really think too much about what things cost until recently and luckily something always comes around the corner and we make ends meet.

I am a writer but work weekends at a golf course and have started selling AVON to friends and isnt a lot of money but I dont have to go out of my way, there is no pressure to sell, and it is a nice bonus.

Do you need suggestions on making money, economising or eating on a budget? Do you need support to keep sane during the tough times?

Although it is very rewarding being a mum it isnt always easy, especially if you are struggling.

I wish you strength and prosperity. Deborah
