I had the same problem with my son. He is also 2. His crib opened the front making it easier for him to get out. I turned the crib around so that the open part was facing the wall to keep him in. I stuck to the same routine of dinner, bath and bed...he cried for 1 hour the first week and than less and less over the few weeks to follow. Now he is used to the routine and sleeping in his bed that he doesn't even give me a problem about going to bed. Oh and I let him pick out his bed set!

I suggest staying on a routine and do not give in if they get up let them know they are ok and lay them back in there bed as long as u keep reasuring your child that they are ok then eventually they will stay in there beds. this may take a while but it will be worth it in the end just stick to it.

I have a18 month old who does that every now and then. I give him a warm baby rub him with lotion. Read him a story. Then give him a warm cup of milk. Then try putting him down. If it don't work. I let him cry for about 3-5 minutes tuen get him. I'll hold him and tell him that Mommy loves you but you have to go in your bed. Then try it again. This time I'll got take my shower. If he's still crying I'll get him and hold him u til he gets sleepy not sleep. Sleepy. He love his blanket so I'll have it his his hand and put him to sleep. I took Kyle to the dr. Cause of this problem. That's what she told us to do. It words. Unless daddies home he'll go right to sleep for daddy. Lol. It was crazy for us Kyle has been sleeping all night since 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. So a few months ago this was new. But he gets at lease 11 hours of sleep in everynight.

Don't allow him to nap know longer than 30min.

Good luck

Hi Kim, I have had the same problem with my eldest two children, what I did was followed our normal routine, dinner, bath, quiet time, book, goodnights and bed. What I then did took a bit of time but has worked for me. I started just sitting on the end of their bed resting my hand on their leg, not saying anything, or looking at them, If they sat up I just laid them back down, again without looking or saying anything. After a few nights and when they settled with this I started 'moving out'. I started with just removing my hand but still sitting on the bed, when this worked I moved to the floor, then the doorway, until I could just quietly and slowly walk out. Some nights were really frustrating, but in fact were really less than half an hour. It was really worth the time and effort because now I just follow the normal dinner, bath, story, bed, goodnight and walk straight out.
