It helps to get down to their level and right in front of their face and have them repeat stuff back to you. This is a problem that will probably never go away or that will return if you relax your efforts. I have a 9 year old and I have to repeat things 2 or 3 times. It's so annoying. Big talks on her level as though she's an adult seem to work well with her when I have her repeat the main points back to me. But she acts half-deaf all the time. Good luck being patient with it!

Welcome to my world. My 6 yr old does not listen to me. She has been that way since she started walking and being indepedent. I sound like a broken record player. I tell her that and she looks at me all serious and asks "whats a record player". Her thing is she will never clean up her mess. She throws EVERYTHING on her bedroom floor. I'm always telling her clean up, get everything off the floor. It's a daily struggle for me and I guess it's somthing thats going to always happen tell that one miracle day she grows out of it.

She is great at school buy cleaning up and helping. Shes great helping me in the kitchen. shes my lil helper but her room its like talking to her on a forighn language.
