I would say 1 to 10 depending on the day, my mood, their moods, what's going on around us, etc... And I would say depending on their age and how you feel about parenting.
Until 3 months old = 8-9 getting to know and adjust to a newborn is always a challenge.
3-30months = between 4 to 7 depending on how you trust yourself as a mother.
21/2 to 5 yo = 9-10 (at least for me) always running, jumping, and with a lot of creativity including water, electricity, etc...
From 5 to 12 = 1-2 parent's heaven !!
From 12 to ... = from 3 to 10 depending on the days, the friends, the caracters, ....

So enjoy every good day, make it a special memory and when time will come you wish you hadn't stopped the pill that day, you will have something to kling to to a put a smile on your face no matter what.

I think it started out around a 4 and the more kids I had worked its way up to a 10. I don't believe it's my children that make it so hard but the situations in life that create the turmoil. Somedays they lift me out of a funk and others they make me wish I was 20 and carefree again. Chandrika is right though it's when you start treating them as cookie children is when you start to have serious issues, they are individuals and needed to be treated as such.

Well...actually speaking if we dont treat them as mere empty vessels and respect them as individuals...kids are as easy or as difficult as any of our friends are to handle.
