Sleep problems

My 6 year old daughter wakes up regularly crying/screaming. She goes to bed with a video and light on (she won't go to bed unless they are on). Sometimes when she wakes she is not "with it", like she is still in the dream and other times she will get herself so worked up she will make herself sick. There is never anything wrong with her and can not get an answer from her as to why she has woken up. Sometimes she doesn't even remember doing it the next day. I'm at the end of my tether as this has been going on for years. It happens in bouts which last weeks at a time but sadly I haven't been able to work out a trigger for the onset of these "night terrors". Please can anyone help?

There is a book by Dr. Ferber that discusses children and their sleep issues. Check that out as it may have some information that may help you.

I don't know if this will really help, my daughter had difficulty falling asleep and then when she was asleep she rolled around and sometimes would just scream in her sleep. And I am sure I don't have to tell you this ~ BUT that will scare a parent to death. Our doctor told me about Melatonin, we bought it at GNC (I've seen it at Wal-Mart), but it's a natural sleep enhancer ~ they have some that you can put under the tongue and it dissolves or swallow. . . . . .Not sure if you would have to get this approved through your dr. since you have a 6 yr old, but it's supposed to be all natural, better then like a Tylenol PM or something like that.
