My daughter is 9 ½ months old and she has never spent the night apart from me. My husband is looking for a night out on the town with out having to worry about getting home to the babysitter. I don’t want her to have a hard time separating from me when she is older, but I feel like it is too soon for a overnight sleepover. When did you spend the first night away from your little one and do you think I am overreacting?

My daughter spent the night at my mom's before she was 1. They were fine and my mother made sure that she got some sleep. I think it just depends on your child and who they would be staying with. I also made sure to tell her that mommy would be back at a specific time.

Dylan was about two years old. She was totally about sleeping out- she was actually still nursing so I was worried about that- but it was fine. She is six now and has slept over at all sorts of friends' houses. Ava is two and a half years old now. I don't think she's ready at all or close to it- she does spend the whole day in daycare though. They are all different and you tend to know your child better than anyone else. If she is sleeping through the night she probably won't even notice the difference. At that age, I think I would be the one who wouldn't be able to have fun and who would keep thinking about the baby more than I think the baby would have a problem with it.
