Toothbrushing troubles

My daughter is 2 and up till this point I have been using the toddler tooth paste that is safe to swallow but I don't feel like its doing a good enough job of cleaning her teeth. My problem is that I can't get her to spit it out instead of swallowing it, I guess because it tastes good and she is used to doing that. I want to switch her to a real toothpaste but am worried about her swallowing it, will it make her sick? Does anyone have suggestions on teaching your child to spit and while we are at it, to brush without a fight! I am so sick of the struggle every night, and I want to know that after going through that she has clean teeth! Any suggestions would be appreciated and also suggestions on the best brands would be great too, I have heard that the kids brands have a lot of sugar. Thank you!

My son does the same thing. As long as you don't use more than a pea size amount she will be fine.

I used to eat the grwon ups toothpaste when I was young, lol and nothing happend to me..anyways I got daughter to copy me too, except I made a silly spit couple of times, then she thought it was funny and wanted to spit aswell, lol then I made it a chanlege to see how white can she make her mouth go, and how far can she spit, so now she brushes her teeth fine, I even got her a spin brush, for I think it helps her much more. She get pretty teeth!

I dont know how your daughter is about copying you but my son is 19mos old and copies everything i do.. have you tried brushing your teeth with her and spitting and then telling her to spit to.. make it fun so she knows its okay to spit in the sink. My son blows his own nose bc he copied it from me. I would still use the toddler toothpaste until your positive she can spit on her own and she doesnt swallow it anymore. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes!
