I'm weening my son off of it right now. Day one and he was only 40 minutes past his bed time. I think nuks are a good idea but I also think that your child will let you know when they are done. My son only sucks on it for 5-10 minutes at bed/nap times therefore I figured it was time.

my daughter of 2 months has had a foo foo since she was born. She loves it. I have a 9 month old niece whom still uses her and a 1 1/2 year old niece that still has hers. Now the 1 year old only is allowed to have her occasionally. I hope that it is not a matter of breaking my daughter from it. I don't think that it will be that big of a problem b/c sometimes she spits her foo foo out and doesn't want it back, and then sometimes when we give it to her it is like she has been waiting for it for hours. lol

I offered a pacifier to my son during the first two months...he just didn't take. I also offered it to my daughter in the hospital and she didn't care for it either. I think if you offer it and they take it, it's something that will help.

The downside is breaking them of it when they are older. I have an in-home daycare and I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old that still use it on a regular basis. One of them can't be without it. She'll throw tantrums if you take it from her to wash it.

So if you can find a balance to using it. I think that would be ideal. I found in a few articles that the suckling is beneficial for the first 9-12 weeks. So maybe you can do your research and find what works best for you and your little peanut.
